Recreation Programs

Afterschool Enrichment Program

A variety of courses will be offered at the Elementary School for kids grade 1-4. Most programs will be taught by Mendham teachers and other experts in the courses offered. Some examples of programs that will be offered include poetry/creative writing, learning math through cooking, the science of ocean life, rocketry, and current events. Look for the flyer in your school for more information on these programs.

Babysitting Course

Get certified for sitting! The Smartsitter Babysitting Course will be offered Thursday, June 26, from 9 AM to 2:30 PM at the Mendham Township Municipal Building. The course is for youth ages 11-15. Fee: $45.

Baseball and Softball - Youth

Mendham Township Little League (Baseball and Girls Softball):

Baseball: Games are played April through the end of June on fields in the Borough and Township. There is a baseball clinic and evaluation for all players. All star competition begins in July. The league teams range from Tee Ball to Senior Babe Ruth involving children from 5 to 18 years of age. A summer camp is offered in July. Pick up games are available during July and August. Girl’s Softball: This program is open to girls from ages 5 -14. Divisions include: T-Ball (K-1st grade), Instructional (1st & 2nd grade), Minor (3rd & 4th grade), Major (5th & 6th grade), Senior (7th & 8th grade). Practice begins late March and games begin late April until June. Games are played at 6:00 pm weekdays and Saturdays. Skill building and recreation are the main objectives. Baseball - Adult


The Pastime Club has sponsored a semi-professional baseball team since 1915. The Pastime Athletics compete in the Morris County Major League. Under Coach Bernie DeCristofaro, the team won 11 championships in 19 years, including two "three-peats" in the 1990's. Games are played May through August. Home games are played on Pastime Field located at the end of Valley Way in Mendham Borough.

Basketball - Youth

Sponsor: Mendham Patriot's Basketball

Patriot Recreation Basketball: The program includes a clinic for grades K-3rd; recreation for grades 4th-8th. Sign-ups are in early October, and the season starts in December and ends in March. Boys and girls play on separate teams with practices and games held at local schools for the clinic and recreation components. For more information, visit the Mendham Patriot's Basketball website.

Basketball - Adult

Men’s Basketball: Open play from October 1st through April 30 at the Township Middle School, Wednesdays 6:30-9:00 p.m. Open to Borough and Township Men. 

Bowling

The Pastime Club maintains four bowling lanes which are open to the public. Many local leagues bowl at Pastime Lanes and are always looking for regular and substitute bowlers. Women's leagues meet during the day and on Monday evenings, men's leagues bowl on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and there is a mixed league that bowls on Friday evenings. An eight-week sanctioned youth league begins in January. The lanes can be rented by the hour for Childrens or adult parties; bumpers are available for the youngsters. During January, February and March, there is open bowling every Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. For more information contact Steve Swiencki 543-6631.

Cross Country

Sponsor: Mendham Magic

For children in K-8th grade, the cross country running season begins in early September and goes through the end of October. Practices are held during the week at Brundage Park in Randolph. Races are typically every Sunday in September and October from 11:30 AM-1 PM at Brundage Park. Optional post-season running is available, providing an opportunity for runners to compete in State, Regiona,l and National competitions. For more information visit the Mendham Magic website.

Cheerleading for Twin Boro Bears

The program is open to all girls in the Mendhams and Chester, entering 3rd-8th grade in the Fall. Tryouts take place in early spring (April & May). Several training dates are scheduled prior to the tryout in order to familiarize the girls with the cheers. (Watch the local newspaper for details). The season runs from mid-August through early November.

Day Camp

Held at the Borough Park, the program is for children entering kindergarten through 5th grade. Daily activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, visits to the library and Pastime Lanes and special events. A snack is provided. On scheduled days, children going into grades 3rd-5th will have the opportunity to attend camp at Brookside Beach. Dates: June 30-August 8, Time 9 AM-12:30 PM Monday-Friday.

Registration: Before May 30
Cost: $60 per week, per child. After May 30, the cost is $75. After June 27, the cost is $90. To guarantee a spot, registration forms and full payment must be received by May 30.

There are no refunds.

Family Skate at Mennen Arena

The Township Department of Recreation sponsors an annual Family Skate at the Mennen Area in Morris Township. The skate takes place the third Friday in March. Pizza and skating is included.

Fencing

Sponsor: Chester Twp. & Mendham Twp. Recreation
Location: Held at the Church of the Messiah on Rt. 24 in Chester.
Dates/Times: Variety of day and weekend hours offered year round in four-week sessions.
Participation: Children 6 years to adult.
Registration: You can register at any time during the year through the recreation office. NOTE: All equipment is provided.

Football

Sponsor: Twin Boro Bears
The program is open to boys and girls, grades K-8th, from the Mendhams and Chester. The league ranges from the instructional level K-2 (non-contact/flag) through varsity (8 grade). Excellent equipment is provided.

Registration: The sign-ups are April through August (watch paper for date) and proctices begin the first week of August at the Mendham High School.

Lacrosse

Sponsor: Mendham Chester Lacrosse

Lacrosse is open to girls in 3rd-8th grade and boys in 2nd-8th grade. Season begins in March and ends in June. Teams compete against area towns and are sanctioned by US Lacrosse. Free clinic lacrosse is available for K-2nd grade boys and girls and held at West Field in April and May.

Ski Club

Children in grades 6th and up can go on several trips each winter to local ski resorts on Sundays and Saturdays. All trips leave from the Borough Park parking lot. Fees include bus and lift tickets.

Soccer - Youth

Sponsor: West Morris Soccer Club

The program includes a co-ed clinic for Kindergarteners with basic skills and short games; recreation teams for grades 1st-8th; as well as travel teams in grades 5th-8th for players who want to make a greater time commitment and play at a more competitive level. Travel tryouts are held each Spring for the following season's teams.

Soccer Camp

Sponsor: West Morris Soccer Club
Participation: For children aged 5 and up.
Dates/Times: Camp runs from mid- to late August. A half-day program runs from 9 AM-3 PM; a full-day program for more advanced players is held from 9 AM-3 PM, and a Munchkin Program for pre-schoolers goes from 3-4:30 PM.

Softball - Youth

The program is open to girls ages 5 (currently enrolled in kindergarten) through 14. Divisions include: T-ball (K-1st grade), Instructional (1st & 2nd grade), Minor (3rd & 4th grade), Major (5th & 6th grade), Senior (7th & 8th). Practice begins late March; games run from late April through June, with Tournament play in July. Games are played at 6 PM weekdays and Saturdays.
Registration: Begins on Dec. 1 and ends on Dec. 31. Registrations can be completed via the Mendham Little League Website.

Softball - Men

The Mendham 35+ Men's softball competes with more than 100 players on teams from the Mendhams and Chesters. Games are played locally, Saturday evenings or Sunday mornings.

Summer Preschool Program



For children who turn 4 years old by May 1, this program is held at the Old Ralston Firehouse in Wysong Park. Camp includes stories, arts and crafts, songs and movement! There is a daily "theme," and some are educational (but, shhh! don't tell the children!). Snacks are provided by the camp, which runs Mondays-Thursdays, from 9 AM-Noon, July 7-17. Registration is limited to 30 and done by lottery. Forms can be obtained at the Recreation Department Office and must be returned with the fee of $105 by April 30. Parents are notified, if their child has been picked.

Swimming - Brookside Beach

FUN IN THE SUN AT BROOKSIDE BEACH
This summer swim season promises to be exciting at the Mendham Township Pond (Brookside Beach) located at the Township Elementary School on West Main Street in Brookside.
The Beach will offer swim lessons, a competitive swim team, story hour, and all the other activities families have come to enjoy.

Concession services are available. Employment opportunities are available for lifeguards and concession staff. You must be 15 years or older for concession stand and 16 years with lifesaving certification for lifeguard.


Swim Lessons
Swim Lessons are open to children age 4 and up. We offer beginner I, beginner II, intermediate and 4 stroke clinics.  Swim Team is open to children 5 and up. The team participates in the North Jersey Regional Lake League. Team practices are held every day either morning or afternoon. Swim team begins late June and continues through early August. Swim team applications can be picked up at Town Hall. Swim team fee is $25 for members, $50 for non-members.

Beach hours
The Beach opens Memorial Day Weekend, including Memorial Day, and continues for the following weekends in June from Noon to 7 PM. It opens full-time starting the day Mendham TWP Schools close for the summer. Hours of operation are Mon-Sat from 11 AM to 7 PM, and Sundays from Noon to 7 PM through Labor Day.

Swim Team
For children 5-18 years of age. Children participate in the North Jersey Regional Lake League, with practices every weekday morning and swim meets on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Fees: Beach members pay $60 per child/$120 max. per family. Non-members pay, $90 per child/$180 max. per family.

    The world's oldest sport thrives, as the Patriots Wrestling Team offers opportunities to K-8th graders, who seek the fun and challenge of the character-building sport. Season runs from November through February at the West Morris Mendham High School Field House.
